Rochdale Music Service

Welcome to Rochdale Music Service

Rochdale Music Service seeks to provide the opportunity and access to musical activities that meet the needs of individual schools and the wider community of the Borough of Rochdale. We provide a wide range of instrumental, vocal and curriculum teaching in our local schools, in and around the Borough of Rochdale.

Within Rochdale Town Hall, we have established a “Centre of Excellence” where we offer both individual and ensemble, instrumental and choral tuition from Monday to Friday, throughout the day, in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. As well as practical instrumental lessons, we can also provide music theory lessons on a one-to-one basis. We cater to all ages, with ensembles such as our Children’s Choir, to our Community Wind Band, there is something for everyone. Our ability levels range from absolute beginner to ABRSM Grade 8 and above, so whether you are just starting out or you want to continue your talent to a higher level, we can accommodate you. We provide a “value for money” service to 65 primary schools and twelve secondary schools, taking in 3000 instrumentalists, 2000 vocalists and over 3000 pupils in the classroom on a weekly basis, all involved in making music.

As a service, we organise and promote the Rochdale Youth Festival of Music, Speech and Dance on behalf of the Local Authority, which is held annually in the month of March, with over 4500 participants each year. Similarly, we host the North West Regional Festival of Music for Youth each year. This event takes place at Rochdale Town Hall and we are represented at the National Festival on a regular basis by a number of our ensembles. Additionally, we hold our annual “Christmas Cracker” concert across a single weekend in December. The Christmas Cracker consists of three concerts, which involve all of our music centre ensembles and primary schools from across the borough.

Our ensembles regularly perform at events in and around Rochdale, as well as playing further afield at venues such as at The Royal Albert Hall and The Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture. We have even travelled abroad and performed at events in other countries including Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Austria and The Ukraine.
