Rochdale Music Service
Welcome to Rochdale Music Service
Rochdale Music Service is a friendly and accessible service that provides high quality music tuition in schools across the Borough and also from our Music Centre, based in the beautiful Rochdale Town Hall. Whatever your musical interests, your standard of playing or age, we can teach you and we have different levels of groups for you to join. It does not matter if you have not played before or if you are coming back to music after a break, you don’t need your own instrument as we can provide one at no extra cost. We know that music can transform people’s lives, improve their health and wellbeing and provide a lifelong hobby and interest. We are proud of the achievements of all of our participants and are fully committed to supporting all to achieve their aims and also enjoy their music making.
On a weekly basis, we teach over 3000 children in 80 schools and over 300 from our centre. 5,000 children take part in our annual Music Festival of Performing Arts and 1,500 in the regional Music for Youth Festival that we host. Last year, over 60 concerts were given by the different centre groups, in addition to our participation in the Music Festival.
Our centre ensembles, bands and choirs are accessible for all, from those who are able to play a few notes, through to groups for advanced players who are capable of representing England internationally. You don’t need to wait to join a group - your playing will improve rapidly when you do, whatever your level!
Each year, each of the groups in the service has the opportunity to perform in concerts in different venues locally, nationally and internationally.
Through the Greater Manchester Hub, we work with a range of partners who support our work and also provide additional opportunities to our members. These include the Hallé Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, the Bridgewater Hall, Charanga, Chetham’s School of Music, Music Unlimited, the Manchester Camerata, The Royal Northern College of Music, and the University of Salford.
We are proud of our partnerships with the Army and grateful for the help and support the Lancashire Artillery (V) Band, and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Band (Lancashire) have given us.

At Rochdale Town Hall, we have many facilities provided for us. We have parking available all around the building, including the Town Hall Car Park and the Esplanade Street Parking. The Music Centre is just a short walk from the transport interchange, meaning it is accessible by tram, bus and train. As we are based in Rochdale Town Hall, the Great Hall has become our go to venue for concerts and performances as it is just below our centre, making it a perfect performance space. There is also the Clock Tower Restaurant on the ground floor in which food and drinks can be purchased. Within our centre, we have multiple practice and teaching rooms, several group rehearsal spaces and a waiting area for both our customers and their families.
