Singing StrategyThe Music Service is committed to making Stockport a “singing borough”. All primary schools benefit from a structured programme of vocal work that reaches from Early Years/Foundation Stage through to Year 6, which is led and supported by our Vocal Animateur. We already have a choir in over 90% of schools and are aiming to have singing at the heart of every school by 2015!
The “Song Squad” also works extensively in schools to deliver the Singing Schools programme, a year long project which provides targeted support to build the confidence of every class teacher or teaching assistant to deliver singing in their classroom.
In addition to singing in school, there are also opportunities for pupils to sing at the Music Centre and these can be found on the Ensembles page.
As well as our work with children and young people, we also have two groups for adults. Stockport Local Vocals is a group for any adult connected with a school-based setting (teacher, TA, parent volunteer, governor etc) and the Monday Lunch Bunch is open to any employee of Stockport MBC or its partners that wishes to come along and sing for fun and enjoyment (see the Ensembles page for more information).
